A one-year super visa policy can be a big single payment — depending on age, coverage and deductible it commonly runs from around $1,200 to several thousand dollars per person. The good news: monthly payment plans exist, and a policy paid monthly can still meet the IRCC requirement.
Does IRCC accept monthly payments?
Yes — provided the policy itself still meets the rules. IRCC requires that super visa medical insurance:
- provides at least $100,000 in emergency medical coverage,
- is valid for at least one year from entry, and
- is paid in full or in instalments with a deposit before your parent enters Canada.
For the same plan, the coverage is generally the same whether you pay monthly or annually — the payment schedule changes. Your advisor confirms the exact IRCC wording that applies when you apply.
What does a year of coverage actually cost?
From the insurers' current rate cards in our live comparison (at $100,000 coverage, per person, standard $0 deductible), the annual premium works out to roughly:
- Ages 45–59: about $1,230–$1,720 for the year — a monthly equivalent of roughly $105–$145
- Ages 60–69: about $1,620–$3,030 — roughly $135–$255 a month
- Ages 70–79: about $2,890–$6,700 — roughly $240–$560 a month
Choosing a higher deductible brings every one of those numbers down — often substantially. Your exact premium depends on age, coverage amount, deductible and health; see your own number in about a minute.
The catch: monthly usually costs a little more overall
Monthly plans typically total somewhat more than paying the year up front, and some insurers add a one-time set-up fee or require a larger first payment as the deposit. The exact uplift and fees vary by insurer — so we show you the annual-vs-monthly totals side by side before you commit. For many families, spreading the cost is well worth a modest difference.
How we help
Not every insurer offers monthly payments. We compare the ones that do, show the true totals both ways, and explain what the deposit, fees and deductible do to your cost — in English, Hindi or Punjabi. Then the paperwork is handled so the policy is in place before your parent travels.
